About Moira Replan
Our Story
Moira Replan has been part of the local community for almost four decades.
Its story began during a period of enormous change for Moira and the surrounding former mining communities. As the coal mining and pottery industries declined during the 1980s, local people faced unemployment and the difficult task of learning new skills for a changing economy.
Replan was created to help.
The original project began in the late 1980s, with Moira Replan opening in 1988 in response to the closure and decline of the coal mines and pottery industries across North West Leicestershire and the surrounding area.
Initially, its focus was very practical: helping local people retrain, gain qualifications, develop new skills and find new opportunities.
One of the greatest needs identified at the time was support for people returning to employment after raising families. For many years Replan provided computer training, vocational learning and rural skills projects, helping local residents adapt to a very different employment landscape.
Moira Replan later became an independent organisation and was formally registered as a charity in 1992.
Its charitable purpose is simple but deliberately broad:
To promote charitable purposes for the benefit of the community of Moira and the surrounding district.

Moira Replan is now at a critical point. Without action, this much-loved community hub could be lost. The only way to secure its future is for the organisation to purchase the building and take ownership of it.
Buying the building will ensure that Moira Replan can continue to operate, grow, and support the community for generations to come. It will protect the services people rely on and allow new opportunities to be created for local residents.
